Our Redhide plaited reins are all handmade and plaited in our workshop. With the option for brass or stainless hardware, split or joined and also an optional extra for a buckle to join the ends.
The most common question I get with these reins is what length do I need?
My recommendations are:
- 4 foot 9 length for Polocrosse players, or those that prefer joined reins as there's less to get caught up while playing. I do recommend these to be joined as there is not enough weight to hold the reins either side of the wither.
- 5 foot 6 length for Campdrafters or those who prefer to bridge their reins. I believe this is the perfect length for general working use or those who like to switch between split and joined - for regulation reasons.
- 6 foot length I believe is best for training as the extra length allow for a leg extension if needed. However to get this length in the Redhide, it's very rare. So if we do have them available they will not last long.
- 3 plait: I recommend for larger hands. Most men tend to prefer the three plait.
- 5 plait: is perfect for smaller hands. Ladies the 5 plait feels amazing and doesn't feel like it's cutting into your hand!
